Man. United crashed out of the competition on away goals

United were 3-2 winners on the night but the 4-4 aggregate scoreline meant the Old Trafford side crashed out of the competition on away goals.
Ten-man Manchester United exited the Champions League at the quarter-final stage to Bayern Munich.

Wayne Rooney's remarkable recovery inspired United to a Champions League revival against Bayern after their 2-1 first leg defeat in Germany.
Rooney, whose ankle injury a week ago had threatened a premature end to his season, made the opening goal for Darron Gibson.
Nani put United 2-0 up within seven minutes with an extravagant backheel.
He then scored a third goal before Ivica Olic grabbed a lifeline for the German side at 3-1.
But the match swung at the start of the second half when United defender Rafael was sent off for a second booking and a flare-up of Rooney's ankle saw him substituted.
Bayern then dominated and triumphed when Arjen Robben volleyed home the vital second away goal in the 74th minute to pull it back to 3-2 and 4-4 overall.
Munich's away-goals victory over United made it the first time since 2003 that an English club had not made it to the semi-finals.
Bayern now face Lyon in the last four after they beat French rivals Bordeaux 3-2 on aggregate. by premierleague
